Failure control technique of oil & gas pipeline

Based on the analysis of pipeline failure pattern, reason and consequence, the paper presents the philosophy and method of failure control, which is to establish the pipeline failure database, determine the main failure patterns, analyze and study the corresponding reason, mechanism and factors of them, further to investigate to provide the failure control measures and methods. Discussion on the relationship between pipeline failure control and integrity management is carried out. Results show that they bear their own features and connections between them. Both of them are very important in securing pipeline safety management. From the functional viewpoint, failure control emphasizes on design and construction stage, while integrity management more emphasizes on pipeline operation stage. However, the latter extends on design and construction stage as well. Merging these two concepts are good for all-around securing pipeline safety operation and preventing severe disasters.
