  • The property of coating at girth weld has direct relationship with quality of surface treatment. Suitable treated steel surface will greatly increase properties of mechanical and electrochemical corrosion resistance of coating and prolong life span of a pipeline. The article introduces features and applicable scope of some kinds of abrasive material for sandblasting and points out that selection must be made for sandblast- ing materials and their grain in construction. The principle is to use min. abrasive to clear max. welds and last as long as possible a continuous time in primary rust removal procedure. Test result shows that a silica sand of 0.5mm grain diameter can greatly increase rust removing productivity and reduce consumption of abrasive material. It is applicable for a pretreatment procedure of on-site anti-corrosion joint surface of pipeline weld.
