Attempts to Protect the Bank Protection for Products Pipeline in Desert Area

Due to the secondary reconstruction of the Qinghai-Tibet Highway, the vegetation along Golmud-Lhasa Products Pipeline was destroyed and the covering earth began to desertify, making the pipeline protection more difficult. Based on the practices on bank protection for pipelines in desert, the following statements are given: ① Bank protection built by using local sandy soil can withstand neither windstorms nor floods; ② Bank protection built with straw bags or cloth bags suffers from short service life; ③ The bank protection built with rubble concrete and provided with sluiceways can survive from windstorms and floods, offer effective pipeline protection and remove the hidden perils.
