Abrasive Selection for Shot (Impeller) Blasting of Steel Pipes

  • Surface cleaning is critically important for pipe coating, and shot (impeller) blasting is the most suitable derusting method for most kinds of coating materials. Introduced in the paper are the variety, selection, experimental analysis and application of the abrasive materials for shot (impeller) blasting. Two kinds of derusting abrasives are available: ① steel abrasives; Wire abrasives are superior both in fragmentation and in the wear on impellers and vanes; ② mineral abrasives: Being lower than garnet but higher than 1# chert in fragmentation, 2# chert, with an much lower Si content than 1# chert, is preferred.
