Corrosion in Golmud—Lhasa Products Pipeline and Its Countermeasures

Severe corrosion problems, coating aging, disbonding as well as pitting corrosion in pipe sections crossing rivers, ice hills, salina, and marshland, are found during the comprehensive inspection and maintenance made for Golmud-Lhasa Products Pipeline. The corrosions are caused by imperfect design and construction, extreme geographical and geological conditions and poor operational management. The corresponding measures taken against the corrosions are introduced, in-cluding cathodic protection, corrosion inspection, repair, and hydrotechnical protection. Finally, suggestions and recommendations on the corrosion protection of Golmud-Lhasa Pipeline are given.
