Application of Aluminum Hot Spray Coating for Corrosion Con-trol

  • Corrosion control of steel structures has been achieved in China by traditional paint application, which has such disadvantages of short protective life and low economic effectiveness, hence preventing the steel structure from long term service. Composite coating of hot sprayied aluminum enjoys unique advantages such as long term anticorrosion performance. This kind of coating is applied by melting aluminum wire and atomizing it with high pressure air into fine articles which then are forced onto the prepaired steel surface at high speed and finally accumalating into coating. Two hot spray technologies are available; flame spraying and arc spraying. In terms of different specifications, arc spraying is considered superior over flame spraying. Many applications of hot spraying for the protection of equipment in petroleum storage and transportation industry can be found both in China and abroad, and considerable economical and social benifits are achieved.
