Geological Survey for A Tunisian Gas Transmission Pipeline

  • Being a region-dependent activity, project geological survey in a unformiliar African country, where basic data are not available, requires somewhat different working schedule and strategies. In accordance with the contract, disign and time limit, the field reconnaisance for Tunisian Gas Transmission Pipeline, the first overseas project independently contracted by China Oil and Gas Pipeline Bureau, has been completed successfully. The reason for the success is that proper tactics were worked out and followed on the basis of special project survey requirements. The absence of specific requirements in the engineering contract and bidding documents provides an excuse to use existing equipment and working mode and to follow Chinese codes and standards. At the same time, local conditions shall be regarded as well. The characteristics of the project in Tunisia are described concerning the following important items as seismic geology, soil classification, determination of soil bearing capacity, and geotechnic tests.
