Selection of Regulating Valves for Crude Oil Pipeline

  • The key to efficiency improvement and cost reduction in pipeline operation is to reasonably and prope--ly select the regulating valves for pipeline auto-control and pump outlet pressure control. Having such advantages over other types of regulating valves as larger flow coefficient. smaller size and higher cost effectiveness, butterfly valve is generally not applicable to the pipeline systems requiring strict control due tc its higher pressure loss than Venturi ball valve. Newly developed in foreign countries, Venturi ball valve is constructed on the basis of a full bore, the flow way of which is reduced and which is modified to be Venturi tube shaped. The fluid in a Venturi ball valve undertakes compression followed by Venturi expantion. A small change in openning will result in quick change in pressure drop with its full openning having a far more flow enlargememt than other types of valves. In addition, it is featured by high sensitivity, quick action, low pressure loss, and large capacity. In most cases, Venturi ball valve is the first choice over regulating devices.
