Accident Statistics and Analysis for Oil Transportation Pipeline

Abstract
Safety is of utmost importance in oil transportation. Statistics and analysis are made on the accidents of oil pipeline which have occured over 20 years of operation. It is believed that the main reasons for these accidents are equipment failure, pipeline corrosion and maloperation, and that extraneous damages, poor construction and dis qualified materials are also contributors to the accidents not to be ignored. Suggestions are given for the followwng operations: pipeline design and construction, pipeline corrosion control and catholic protection. equipment procurement, pipeline operation and management. It is pointed out that the keys to the problems are to improve the technical management of pipeline, and to inhence pipeline staff's professional knowledge and ethics.
