Optimal Coordination of Pump Units for Nanshu Pipeline

  • Nanshu Pipeline (an oil products pipeline from Fushun to Yingkou), 240mm long, has three pump stations.Through reasonable coordination between the quantity and models of pump units, optimal operation is realized and a considerable quantity of energy saved. The average pipeline throughput in winter and summer is analyzed, and the average friction losses for different oil products are calculated according to the flow regime determined by Reynolds number.Requirements for pump coordination are the following; ①throughput requirement, ②outlet pressure for every station≤5.88Mpa, and ③inlet pressure>0.196 Mpa and < 0.882Mpa.Energy equilibrium equation can be established through calculating pressure losses in pipeline and pump station. With different alternatives for pump unit coordination, the optimal coordination for any product in any season can be found by means of computer calculation. Then the optimal pump unit coordination for each station can be decided through further verification and calculation. It is pointed out that incorrect switching can also result in low pipeline economic efficiency.
