On Freezing Damage Control of Oil Tanks in the North

Abstract
Due to the cold weather in winter seasons in the northern areas, oil spitting is often the case on tank farms. Freezing damage control is considered important through reading the example given. Three suggestions are set forth on how to control freezing damage: (1)Anti freezing should be put into account during additional part selection. Valves to be installed before the tanks and at the positions where pipeline will turn should be reliable and of long service hfe, further more. they should be pressure tested again before installation; to have one more tank breathing valve so as to avoid the accident that the tank is breathed empty; orgaism coating material and sacrifice anode protection are recommened for corrosion control. (2) Strenthening the inspection of welding rods during construction. For the welds. internal cracks, inclusion, unpenetration and other internal damages should not be simply examined by visual inspection, using kerosene to define filtration, vacume method to define leakage. instead of ultrasonic detection should be adopted. (3) Protection measure should be taken timely, for example, before winter comes.such inspections should be performed to see if the foundation of an oil tank settles or not. if there is any tendeacy of tank body tilting, any water collected near the bottom. venting valve Working condition etc. For pipelines. to be inspected are the pipe supports, telescope device. if the slope is in the conformity with the designed one, if the depth of corer can meet the requirements, any water.debris and oily dirt etc.
