The Optimum Design of Suspended Pipelines under Water

  • It is an advanced technique to suspend pipelines to a certain depth under the sea by means of a power molive system instead of marine laying. In comparison with the latter, it boasts of such advantages as easy installation, sparing the trouble of trcnching, accessible to maintenance, economization of cost, no overbending stress occuring as in the case of laying pipelines. The article deals mainly with the structure principle of such a suspended pipeline system, presents the calculation for an optimum design, works out the computer programe to optimize the power motive performance of pipeline under the action of waves so that the pipelines are relatively stabilized and suspended in the sea and the dynamic stress caused by surge is limit within a permissible range. The calculation results with 3 different values on L of the system show that the design parameters obtained through optimization computation make it not only feasible technically to suspend pipelines in the sea, but also an economical and reasonable project.
