Abstract
The work principle of satellite monitoring technology for the leakage detection of oil pipeline is introduced. The infrared remote sensing probe detects the temperature effect above the surface soil of pipeline, estimating the leakage possibility via the differences of temperature field distribution reflected from remote sensing image, reviewing the detailed information about the leaking pipeline section via GIS platform and locating the leakage point of pipeline via GPS methodology. The feasibility to monitor the pipeline leakage with remote sensing technology and the importance of GIS and RS technology to monitor the leakage are furthermore confirmed. 3-S technology (RS、GPS、GIS) is proved to be effective in leakage detection by case analysis. However, obvious drawbacks are left over higher costs in data acquisition and use, low resolution from the satellite's camera and low receivability/low precision of temperature measuring from the detector.
