Contrast of the inland and overseas lightning protection standards for oil tank

  • This paper collects the oil tank lightning protection standards of China, Russia, North America, and other countries and regions, a comparison among their differences is given on equipotential connection of floating disc and tank wall, tank grounding, lightning protection of inner floating roof and fixed roof tank, the thickness of lightning receiver, electrical instrumentation and lightning protection system maintenance. It is pointed out that the equipotential connection is an important foundation for oil tank lightning protection. The authors suggest that adopting the relevant Russian standards regarding the maintenance and testing detail requirement based on API RP 545 and related inland standards is necessary to develop the tank lightning protection standards correspond with China's actual pipeline status.
