Analysis on the variances in the pressure testing standards of oil and gas pipelines at home and abroad

  • Flashing the highlights in the installation and running for the pressure testing of pipeline, the major standards at home and abroad related to it are went over. The standards and codes cited thereinafter include the US Federal Charter, relative association standards, ISO Standards, British Standards and Canadian Standards. China relative standards and codes are divided into 3 levels, that is, National standards, industrial standards and enterprise standards. Vital technology specified in these standards for pipeline pressure test includes the classification of regions, design coefficient of pipe strength, sectioning of pressured pipe, hydrotest medium, testing pressure of strength, testing pressure of tightness and the sustained duration of pressure, etc.. The paper addresses the differences in those standards and gives hydrotest cases and methodology worldwide. Finally, recommendations are made to improve inland pressure testing standards of pipeline and the revision of relative standards.
