Exploration on the function and operation mode of natural gas pipeline networks in energy internet

  • With the progress of technology and the improving awareness of environmental protection, the energy internet is taking shape gradually, and the renewable energy will become the main energy source, which puts forward new requirements for the development of natural gas pipeline networks. Herein, the conditions and functions of the natural gas pipeline networks integrating into the energy internet were analyzed from the perspective of its characteristics: (1) The important position of natural gas in ensuring energy security was pointed out based on the current demand situation of natural gas at home and abroad. Meanwhile, analysis was performed for the basic framework of energy internet, as well as the status of inadequate research on the operation characteristics of natural gas pipeline networks under the framework.(2) The development status of natural gas pipeline networks in China was analyzed in view of the status of trunk pipeline networks, the construction of urban natural gas pipeline networks and gas system reform. In addition, the important role of natural gas pipeline networks in energy internet was elaborated from the three aspects, i.e., gas and electricity peak shaving, hydrogenmixed transmission, and energy storage.(3) The operation mode of natural gas pipeline networks integrated into the energy internet was discussed from four aspects, i.e., natural gas energy measurement, demand-side comprehensive management, construction of energy storage and conversion facilities, and integrated multi-energy scheduling. Finally, some suggestions were given based on the situation and key technologies for the development of natural gas pipeline networks in energy internet, so as to take better advantages of great energy storage capacity, low loss of transportation, and strong adaptability to new energy.
