Application of HDPE lining technology for pipelines in oil and gas fields

Abstract
With the deep development of domestic and international oil and gas fields, due to the complicated and harsh medium conditions, high density polyethylene (HDPE) lining technology becomes one of the important measures to control the corrosion leakage of the surface gathering & transportation system and water injection system in oil and gas fields and to extend the service life of pipelines. With the lining principle of isodiametric compression for HDPE liner and in accordance with the domestic and foreign standards and specifications, the material performance requirements of HDPE liner, the applicable conditions of HDPE lining technology, the fitness of liner with the base pipe and the design principles for vents were proposed from the 3 aspects of design, construction and economy. Moreover, the wall thickness of HDPE liner was determined based on the minimum thickness for installation & storage, the stability and the collapse resistance of liner, and through comparative analysis on the joint type of different HDPE liner technologies, it was proposed to consider the flange joint preferably. In addition, the construction & installation process of HDPE liner and the lining form of hot induction bend were introduced, the key points and requirements of construction quality control were summarized, and the economic efficiency of different material selection schemes for pipeline in oil and gas field was compared, so as to advance the application of HDPE liner technology in oil and gas fields and to solve the problem of pipeline corrosion leakage in the oil and gas fields.
