Intelligent risk management and control measures for buried metal pipeline under strong DC interference

  • Under the influence of high voltage direct current transmission (HVDC), urban rail transit and other DC systems, the buried metal pipelines nearby may be subject to strong DC interference and high pipe-to-ground voltage may be resultedin, which may lead to pipeline cathodic protection failure, pipeline corrosion acceleration and equipment damage, evenelectric shock of people, pipeline failure and an accident in worse. In order to reduce the field management and controlrisk of strong DC interference and to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment, an automatic on-line monitoringand alarm device and an automatic high-potential reduction device for pipe-to-ground voltage were developed with themicrocontrollers to realize comprehensive governance with intelligent management and control technology. The fieldapplication shows that the intelligent technical measure can actively reduce the risk caused by strong DC interference topersonnel and pipelines to certain extent, and can also greatly mitigate the risk of the original passive protection and furtherreduce the work intensity of the managers and field operators.
