Construction and application of digital twin in the in-service oil and gas pipeline

  • China-Myanmar oil and gas pipeline is the first in-service mountain pipeline that has been digitally restored to form a digital twin in China. In this paper, its data collection, verification and alignment were conducted by means of datum survey, pipeline midline detection, aerial hotogrammetry, 3D laser scanning, 3D terrain construction, oblique photogrammetry and digital 3D modeling. The design, procurement, construction data in the period of pipeline construction and partial data in the period of pipeline operation were restored. The digital 3D models were constructed for the equipment and buildings of the stations and pipelines, and the data asset bases were created for pipeline routes and stations. Thus, a digital twin was built up for China-Myanmar oil and gas pipeline. It is indicated that by means of multi-system integration, data value can be deeply explored and visual pipeline operation, equipment disassembly training and maintenance & repair operation and emergency operation guidance can be realized. The research results provide the data foundation for intelligent operation of pipeline networks.
