Performance characteristics and technical challenges of X80 pipeline steel

  • In order to investigate the research & development and application status of X80 pipeline steel and their existingproblems, we reviewed the main factors affecting the performance of X80 pipeline steel, as well as the research progressand technical challenges in the development of X80 steel pipeline. The metallurgical characteristics and microstructure ofX80 pipeline steel were analyzed in detail, its welding technologies, welding metallurgical characteristics and properties were reviewed, and its mechanical performance and mechanical characteristics were summarized. In particular, the failuremechanisms of X80 pipeline steel in the service environments were discussed, including corrosion, hydrogen inducedcracking, failure of weld zone and strain aging. Finally, the technical challenges affecting the development of X80 pipeline steel were analyzed to ensure the safety and efficiency of the oil/gas transportation and the sustainability of oil/gas pipeline development.
