A failure pressure model for high-grade gas pipelines with corrosion defects

  • With the continuous increase of natural gas demand and the steady progress of gas pipeline construction in China, it is in urgent need to evaluate the remaining strength of high-grade pipeline steel. And the establishment of a failure pressure model is the most important part to evaluate the remaining strength. In this paper, X100 steel pipe was taken as the research object. ABAQUS finite element software was adopted to carry out finite element analysis on two kinds of volumetric corrosion defects, and the correctness of the model was verified by full-scale blasting test data. Then, based on 35 groups of simulation results of X100 steel pipes of different sizes with different geometric defects, the failure pressure prediction model for X100 high-grade pipeline was established by 1stOpt fitting software. Finally, error analysis was conducted on the fitting formula, and the accuracy of the failure pressure model was verified by means of the real blasting test. The research results can provide references for improving the existing remaining strength evaluation methods of high-grade gas pipelines.
