Analysis and solution on the displacement of the Second West-to-East Gas Pipeline at the crossing position

  • The Third and the Second West-to-East Gas Pipeline are laid in parallel. During the construction of the Third West-to-East Gas Pipeline, the earth on the one side of the Second West-to-East Gas Pipeline was excavated at the crossing position of the Jinghe-Yining-Huoerguosi railway, and the Second West-to-East Gas Pipeline suffered obvious bending deformation. In this paper, the stress and displacement of the exposed pipeline section under the joint effect of internal pressure, temperature and soil pressure were simulated and calculated by the software ANSYS, and the pipeline stress was checked. It is shown that the excavation leads to imbalanced soil restraint on the exposed pipeline section. The lateral soil pressure is the main cause of the pipeline displacement. Accordingly, the solution for displacement reduction was proposed. That is to release the stress on the pipeline resulted from the lateral soil pressure by conducting stepwise excavation and back filling at the other side of the exposed pipeline section so as to reduce the horizontal displacement of pipelines. And by means of transformation measures, the risk of pipeline displacement is eliminated and the reliability of the pipeline is improved.
