The difference between domestic and foreign gas transmission station design criteria

  • China's long distance pipeline industry has been developed greatly by learning from the existing advanced experience of foreign oil and gas pipeline criteria. In China, the American and Russian pipeline technical criteria have already been studied, but those of European Union (EU) are less researched. In this paper, EN 12583-2014 Gas Supply Systems-Compressor Stations-Functional Requirement was taken as the example to analyze the important differences between EU criteria and China's criteria from the aspect of key technologies of gas transmission station design. The advancement of EN 12583-2014 is represented in reliability design principle based on redundancy, integral layout principle considering transportation process and personnel operation safety, startup of ESD system at the station in the case of pipeline emergency and repair, testing of compressor seal systems and rotation components being paid much attention, visual management of station facilities, and authorized access conditions of restricted areas. The advanced experience of EN 12583-2014 can be used as the guidance for improving the design level of gas transmission stations in China.
