Monitoring on the temperature field around buried pipeline of Mohe-Daqing Crude Oil Pipeline in the permafrost region

  • The construction and operation of buried oil pipelines will destroy the stability of permafrost, leading to frost heave, thawing settlement, collapse and landslide. And as a result, the pipeline suffers bending, warping and other damages. The permafrost is extremely sensitive to temperature and its damage is irreversible, so it is very important to monitor the temperature field around the buried oil pipeline in the permafrost region. In this paper, Mohe-Daqing oil pipeline was taken as the example. Based on its typical sections, the temperature monitoring system suitable for monitoring the temperature field around Mohe-Daqing oil pipeline was designed. The monitoring results show that the insulation measures that are taken rationally on pipelines can prevent effectively the heat emission from the oil pipeline to the soil, decrease the thawing range of frozen soil around the pipeline, so that the thawing settlement of pipelines is well alleviated. The results provide the decisionmaking basis for the management of pipeline disasters in permafrost regions.
