Abstract
With rapid development of the global oil/gas industry and pipeline construction, the "Pipeline Engineering" as an emerging academic discipline has become a multidisciplinary program with a unique knowledge base. In 2006, the Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems (EOLSS) published under the auspices of UNESCO invited Dr. Frank Cheng to serve as the Editor of the Theme of Pipeline Engineering. Dr. Cheng is a tenured professor and Canada Research Chair in Pipeline Engineering at the University of Calgary, and the elected Fellow of NACE International the Corrosion Society. He invited a number of internationally reputed experts and scholars and formed a strong team to complete an encyclopedia on Pipeline Engineering, the first of its kind in history. The encyclopedia contains 10 series of books, covering almost all aspects and technical topics in the area of pipeline engineering. It is strategically important to the development of pipeline program, new pipeline projects and industry standards. It also serves as a critical guideline to the further research and development activities in pipeline engineering.
