Major hazards of LNG filling stations and their protective measures

  • In this paper, the chemical properties and low temperature characteristics of LNG were investigated to eliminate the potential safety hazards of LNG filling stations to the utmost. Based on the batch production process of LNG filling stations, the hazards of LNG filling stations and their consequences, causes and protective measures were analyzed by means of HAZOP analysis method. The hazards in the process of unloading include arbitrary parking or the potential slippage after stopping of tank wagons and the LNG leak. The hazards in the process of storage include overcharging or overflow of tanks, safety valve failure, heat proof failure and liquid layering. The hazards in the process of charging include high pressure and high flow rate at the outlet of submersible pump, two-phase flow after LNG entering the gas dispenser, larger deviation of charging metering and LNG leak. Then, preventive measures were proposed according to the analysis results. And thus, safe operation of LNG filling station is realized.
