Design of oilfield pipeline monitoring system based on Internet of Things

  • In this paper, an intelligent oilfield pipeline monitoring system based on Internet of Things (IOT) and GSM was designed and developed so as to realize oilfield pipeline flow data sharing and oil leakage multipoint online monitoring. Based on the three-layer architecture of the IOT, this intelligent system is composed of four modules, including flow rate acquisition unit, GSM wireless transmission unit, oil flow data (OFD) server and flow rate background management subsystem. The functions and interconnecting schemes of these modules were illustrated. The flow rate server is used for data sharing. The custom communication protocol is used to encode the flow data and leakage information to improve the reliability of data transmission. Multipoint access and online monitoring are realized by accessing flow rate server through Internet. In this system, the acquisition, storage and management of flow rates are organized together reasonably through the IOT, so its installation and operation are simplified effectively. Based on this system, flow data from multiple monitoring points are shared and pipeline status is real-time online monitored.
