Seismic performance of oil pipeline with individual corrosion defect before and after repair

  • Usually, existence of localized corrosion in overhead crossing pipeline may make the pipeline susceptible to damage in earthquake. The ADINA finite element software is used to establish the fluid-solid coupling model of oil pipeline with corrosion defects and internal liquids after repair of defects. Taking the displacement, axial stress and circumferential stress of the unit at the maximum pipe stress as indicators, seismic performances of the pipe before and after repair are studied. The results show that, because of the existence of corrosion defects, the stress concentration in the corroded pipe section is very obvious, which leads to the lower seismic performance of pipelines. After repair, circumferential stress at the corrosion section decreases, while deflection and axial stress increase, but still within the range allowed by the specification. Therefore, the selected B-type sleeve repair technology commonly used in engineering practice can effectively improve the seismic performance of the pipeline in corrosion section. The research results can provide the theoretical guidance for future repair of corroded pipeline.
