Abstract
The Urumqi-Shanshan Crude Oil Pipeline, as a part of the China West Crude Oil Pipeline, uses "one pump boosting" mode to transport oil. Simultaneous transportation of oils from North Xinjiang and Kazakhstan which have significantly different properties may present challenges for matching between pumping assemblies and pipelines at the Urumqi Initial Station. In this situation, the commercial software SPS is used to simulate the hydrodynamic and heat transfer of the pipeline for transportation of different oils. Based on simulation results, pressure operation charts and temperature operation charts for transportation of North Xinjiang oil and Kazakhstan oil are generated. In addition, pumping combinations and operation programs at the station are determined for working conditions involving different oils and different flow rates in the Urumqi-Shanshan Crude Oil Pipeline. Research results may provide references for practical operations.
