Abstract
Traditional methods of field route selection for oil and gas pipelines involve some disadvantages, especially during field routing in the wild, that may rely on much paper drawing or documents, and a variety of tools. In this regard, the GIS-based field route selection method, which is more portable and flexible, is developed through combination of GIS, RS, GPS and other techniques, using tablet personal computers (TPC) under Android system. In field application, only the TPC containing basic data is required. Accordingly, procedures for field route selection are optimized significantly. This GIS-based method can usher in the transformation from operations characterized by "topographic map on paper and handwritten notes" to those featured by highly integrated smart terminals to optimize procedures for route selection in field. Eventually, accuracy, integrity and utilization efficiency of data acquired on site can be enhanced significantly.
