Regional cathodic protection technique for gas compressor station

  • The buried structures in gas compressor stations or other oil/gas stations/terminals, including pipes, groundings of electrical instruments and equipment foundations, are complicated. Parameters of cathodic protection system vary greatly with the change of soil property, climate condition, location of anodes and confluence points. Therefore, great differences exist in different regions, or even in different stations/terminals within the same region. For problems occurred in regional cathodic protection in multiple gas compressor stations in Uzbekistan, some measures are taken to ensure all indicators qualified, such as cause analysis, measurement of potential distribution, device performance optimization, anode supplementation, and adjustment of confluence points and reference electrode locations. Satisfactory results have been achieved. On this basis, the rules and features for regional cathodic protection are summarized, which can provide a reference for the design and construction of cathodic protection system in gas compressor stations.
