Development and application of cathodic protection monitoring & transmission system for oil pipelines

  • The pipeline corrosion protection data monitoring & transmission system is a state-of-the-art technology for data acquisition and remote transmission of oil/gas pipelines. The system can be used for real-time acquisition and instant transmission of data related to cathodic protection potentials of relevant pipelines. Main components of the system include the master station, multi-function cathodic potential pole, smart terminal for cathodic protection, heavy-duty reference electrode, power supply and public communication network. Both GSM and CDMA can be deployed for data transmission. Application of the system in the Dongying-Huangdao Parallel Oil Pipeline shows that the system can not only be used to monitor pipeline potentials continuously in real time, but also can accurately and timely trigger alarms for potential risks. By using the system, operators can monitor cathodic protection potentials in real time and take proper countermeasures for pipelines with abnormal conditions. Application of the system can significantly enhance cathodic protection of concerned pipelines.
