Design and construction of 20×104 m3 LNG storage tank

  • LNG storage tank maximization is the future development trend. Korea started the development of LNG earlier and has successful examples of 20×104 m3 tank. And it has started the study and construction of 27×104 m3 tank. By introducing the basic facts of Korea's 20×104 m3 LNG storage tank, many advantages of storage tank maximization are concluded. The advantages include: surface area/volume ratio decreased, which is conducive to better control the daily evaporation rate; the amount of some materials reduced, construction costs lowered, land utilization increased, etc. This paper analyzed the current conditions for constructing storage tanks in China from three aspects of design, purchase and construction, and gave a brief description about the design and construction preparation of SINOPEC's first 20×104 m3 LNG storage tank, so as to provide some reference to the China's future design and construction of large-scale storage tanks.
