Abstract
Geological background of earthquakes along the Myanmar-China Oil and Gas Pipeline is complex, and several strong earthquakes occurred in the past. Near the pipeline, there are 18 Holocene active faults, of which 5 faults are intersected with the pipeline. In order to ensure the safety of pipeline operation, reduce the threat of earthquakes and avoid the secondary disasters, according to the characteristics of earthquake activity, an earthquake monitoring system is set up to monitor, in real-time manner and combing with the existing earthquake monitoring stations/networks in Yunnan Province, the earthquake activity along the Myanmar-China Oil and Gas Pipeline (in Yunnan Province). This paper presents the design principles and schemes of the system and the functionality that can be achieved after the system is installed in place, thus providing a reference to the safe operation of the pipeline and the decision-making against maintenance and repair.
