Effects of stable cable on suspension pipe bridge

  • Stable cable is removed in the design of suspension pipe bridge in recent years. The simplifying has no impact on the normal operation of the bridge, but it is lack of theoretical support. In this paper, taking the inland suspension pipe bridge as an example, four finite element models of the bridge are built using ANSYS software. Through comparing the displacement and stress response of these models as analyzed in static force, modal, wind vibration and pigging, the effects of stable cable on stability and strength of the structure is studied. The researches show that the stable cable only has a small effect on the vertical stiffness of suspension pipe bridge, and rare effect on the strength of structure. Therefore, the suspension pipe bridge will be safe without stable cable.
