Cause analysis and effective measures for dry gas seal failure

Abstract
In view of the frequent dry gas seal failure of compressors in compressor stations in West-to-East Gas Pipeline and the consequent high cost for maintenance and replacement, the actual application effect of dry gas seal is analyzed based on the basic structure and operating principle of dry gas seal. The reasons for dry gas seal failure for some compressor stations are dissected. According to the conclusions drawn from actual production and operation, while the dry gas seal failure incidents are collected and analyzed, the factors leading to dry gas seal failure are deeply examined. In addition, measures to improve the effectiveness of dry gas seal are proposed from six aspects, namely compressor design, dry gas seal system design, blocking seal, transportation and storage, installation and removal, operation and maintenance of dry gas seal, in the hope to provide guidance to the application and maintenance of dry gas seal in compressor stations.
