Factors affecting cavities distortion of Jintan Salt Cavern Gas Storage

  • During the construction of Jintan Gas Storage, the cavities are irregular in shape to a various degree. The development conditions of cavity morphology, the key factors affecting cavities distortion are figured out, and these factors are controlled in later cavity making process, which is of great significance for the economic benefit of gas storage and safe production. Based on the statistic analysis of Jintan Gas Storage's seismic, log and cavity making data, multiple factors affecting salt caverns' morphological changes are investigated from geology and technique aspects. Results show that the structural locations, interlayer layouts and distribution of insoluble substances of Jintan Salt Cavern Gas Storage do not have much effect on salt caverns' distortion, while the number and thickness of interlayers are the main factors affecting salt caverns' morphology. The increase in cavity dissolution rates would lead to salt caverns' distortion. The location and thickness of oil cushion layers would affect salt cavern's shape, and during the period of well-resting and static solution, the condition in a rapid saturation of brine does not affect salt cavern's distortion. At present, research on this topic is still a blank in China, and still in exploring stage.
