Impact of plant roots system on the pipeline anti-corrosion coating and countermeasure analysis

  • The impact of deep-rooted plant roots system on pipeline coating has always been a great concern in the pipelineindustry, banned planting and removal of plant cause large economic losses and social conflicts at present. Based on thevarious structural characteristics and performance test results of pipeline coating, the ways how pipeline coating is damagedby plant roots and fail are analyzed. The results show that pipeline coating damage due to plant roots is limited to petroleumbitumen pipeline coating, 3PE and other coating can resist plant roots' damage, accordingly. In the paper, the authors giverecommendations to the relevant departments on plant species cropped above the pipeline and application of "PipelineProtection Law" based on coating type, plant species, and the natural environment, etc..
