Differences in pigging standards between China and Russia

  • In order to ensure safety running of Sino-Russia Crude Pipeline, this paper looks into the differences in pigging technology of China and Russia from the perspectives of pigging method, pig running rate, pigging period, calculation of effective pipeline diameter, pigging quality control measures, pig tracing and pigging safety measures, etc.. It elaborates the advancement of Russian pigging technical standards, including diversification of pigs and pigging methods, periodic/emergency pigging based on pipeline transportation efficiency, position arrangement of pig monitoring points and division of pigging dangerous zones, etc.. At last, it gives the proposals to enhance domestic crude pipeline running standard level and strengthen standards formulation/revision by referring to Russian standards.
