Optimized design of clamps for rush-repair of high-pressure pipeline

  • Taking into account of the existing defects in clamps used for rush-repair of pipes, such as severe deformation, slow leakage plugging and poor result in leakage stoppling, the clamps have been optimized in terms of material, tool body, lug, bolt and sealing material and a rational layout of reinforcement structure and filling port has been proposed for improvement of the clamp rigidity based on relevant results of classic theories and studies. By use of software Pro/e, a 3D physical model has been established for the new high pressure clamp, a quantitative analysis has been made for clamp stress, strain and displacement, further to verify the feasibility of clamp's circumferential and axial sealing by means of finite element calculation. As a result of optimized design of the new split-on high-pressure pipeline clamp, clamp deformation has been reduced and the reliability of clamp's circumferential and axial sealing has been enhanced, providing broad future for deployment and application.
