Risk analysis of blasting operations around in-service oil and gas pipelines

  • In order to achieve quantitative calculation of risks from blasting operations around in-service oil and gas pipelines, an analysis is made of risks of vibrations, shock waves and other possible hazards to pipelines and operators caused by blasting operations around in-service oil and gas pipelines. Permissible safe distance of blast vibration and shock wave overpressure is determined in accordance with calculations of blastvibration and shock wave overpressure as well as relevant standard requirements. In addition, criteria for safe and reasonable blast vibration is determined in accordance with size of blast vibration force on pipelines, blasting conditions, geological conditions, pipe characteristics, pipeline laying methods, propagation path and other factors. Based on these comprehensive factors, corresponding control measures are proposed to provide a basis to the pipeline operating enterprises to make a decision about blasting operations around pipelines.
