Development and application of corrosion coupon suspension device for oil and gas pipelines

  • Shutting down of pipeline is needed when suspension installation of conventional corrosion coupon is carried out. However, this installation operation influences normal running of pipeline. And in this case, a kind of corrosion coupon suspension device without shutting down of pipeline is developed. The device uses a unique design of integrating main packing seal system with gate to achieve safe isolation between internal pipeline medium and external environment, which can suspend the corrosion coupon to a predetermined position with the upper screw rod mechanism and complete corrosion coupon installation and removal rapidly and conveniently under the condition normal running of pipeline to achieve dynamic monitoring of the pipeline. Field applications are carried out in an oil and gas gathering pipeline in Hongqian No. 1 Well in Karamay Oilfield, Xinjiang. Results show that the device can meet the needs of use requirements in low-pressure and mediumpressure pipe equipments with high accuracy rate and success rate under dynamic installation and removal.
