Characteristics of pigging operation for transnational long-distance gas pipeline

  • Pigging operation is one importance work prior to commissioning or during the operation of long-distance gas pipelines, which can ensure the safe operation and transmission efficiency of gas pipeline. The pigging operation for transnational long-distance gas pipelines is different from that of a conventional pigging operation, as it has certain complexities and particularities. The paper introduces the differences in pigging station arrangement and the process of pigging station as well as the selection of pig types between the Central Asia Gas Pipeline and ordinary pipelines in China. Taking the pigging operation in Central Asia Gas Pipeline as an example, it summaries and analyzes the pigging process characteristics and pigging experiences in Uzbekistan pipeline section as well as pigging operation characteristics and key points for the transnational pipeline section of Central Asia Gas Pipeline, hoping to provide experiences to the following up pigging operation for transnational long-distance gas pipeline.
