Origin Analysis to the Cracking of Spiral Welds in a Crude Oil Pipeline

  • The spiral weld of some long-distance crude oil pipeline cracked during operation. Several tests on appearance observation, fracture characteristics analysis, energy spectrum analysis, metallographic analysis, hardness and tensile tests are performed. The test results show that load-bearing capability of the pipe is reduced by welding defects, and the spiral weld cracks by the influence of stagnant water.
