Abstract
Aiming at the formulas and concepts in the standards and codes designing tanks of small internal pressures, some aspects concerning the issue in the design of such tanks including the weak roof-to-shell connections (frangible joint), the critical maximum internal pressure for tank bottom not being uplifting, the failure pressure for the compression rings reaches the yield point, the design internal pressure and anchors and venting (breathing), such as "frangible joint-roof" structure conditions, the critical elastic failure conditions of compression rings, the critical pressure for uplifting the tank shell from the tank foundation, tank anchor, vent valves selection etc. In the same time, some formulas in the standards and codes are deduced and explained. The differences between GB50341-2003 and API 650 are compared and analyzed.
