Status Quo and Tendency of GIS in Long Distance Oil and Gas Pipelines

  • This paper introduces the phylogeny of geographical information system (GIS) and its application status quo worldwide and analyzes shortcomings in traditional pipeline's construction and management and strong points of digital pipeline. It is pointed out that establishing GIS system in long distance oil and gas pipelines is an urgent and necessary work in China, which can enhance productivity and management level for pipeline enterprises as well as deal with pipeline emergency with the establishment of GIS system.
