Bauschinger Effect in the Tension Test of Spiral Submerged-arc Welded Pipe

  • The observation shows that the plastic deformation opposite to the deformation of formation process of welded pipe will produce in tension test of spiral submerged-arc welded pipe (SAW), which causes the Bauschinger Effect. The one-directional tension test on X65 steel coil and pipe manufactured with it shows that the Bauschinger Effect is greatly influenced by the strength level of the steel coil. This paper presents the empirical equations of VBE (Bauschinger Effect Value), discusses the influence of yield tensile ratio of steel coil on Bauschinger Effect and provides the suggestions in pipe production and steel coil purchase.
