Technology Advances Key Worldwide Gas Pipeline Developments

  • The pipeline industry worldwide has got a rapid development since the last century in pipeline technology. The MAOP of gas transmission pipeline is greatly increased from 0. 2 MPa of the last century to 12-15 MPa of this century, and the diameter of pipeline is increased from 406 mm to nowadays 1219- 1422 mm. Especially since the 80's-90's of 1900s, the technological advancements of pipeline industry have obtained in design and construction techniques, materials and protection, records, data management inspection techniques, measurement compression, automation, smart pipelining and business environment. At present, some technological topics are being discussed and studied for the pipeline industry, that is, the suitability of high-strength low alloy steels (HSLA) in high-pressure gas transmission pipeline system, the potential use of composite-reinforce line pipe (CRLP) as a potential application for transmission pipeline systems, mechanized and automated pipeline construction (welding), self-assessment techniques, and use of GPS, satellite imagery and sensing.
