The Technical Point on the Design of Alliance Pipeline's Cathodic Protection System and its Reference Significance

  • The design of Alliance Pipeline's cathodic protection system consists of two parts, that is trunkline cathodic protection system and gas compressor station's cathodic protection system. The former's major design basis is the parameter of soil resistivity along the pipeline, the crossings of high-voltage DC transmission line with the pipeline etc., and the later is that of deep-anode groundbeds at compressors, rectifiers and potential measurement test stations etc.. The selection, determination method and technical point of cathodic protection system of these parameters are introduced in the paper. A design parameters comparison between Alliance Pipeline's cathodic protection system and the West-to-East Gas Pipeline Project is made. The results show that the design parameters of cathodic protection system for the West-to-East Gas Pipeline are available and rational. The authors consider that the design experience of Alliance Pipeline's cathodic protection system can be used as a guideline to refer in the design of cathodic protection system for the West-to-East Gas Pipeline Project.
