FEM Analysis on the Effect of Corroded Flaw Interaction on Remaining Storage of Line Pipe

  • This paper analyzed the effect of corroded flaw interaction on remaining strength of line pipe with the finite element (FEM) analysis method. The results indicated that interaction of two corroded flaws aligned longitudinally inclines with increasing of space between them. If the space between the two corroded flaws exceeded longitudinal length of the flaw with smaller size by two times, their interaction would not exist almost, and only the more severe flaw among them would be considered to assess the remaining strengh of line pipe. With line pipe only loaded inner pressure, interaction of two corroded flaws aligned circumferentially could be negligible.
